TL;DR: Philippine mobile numbers use a 4-digit prefix to identify the original network. Smart uses 0929, 0908, 0939, 0961. Globe and TM share a large pool in the 0905-0979 range. TNT uses 0907-0938. Sun Cellular covers 0931-0991. DITO uses 0895-0898. Since Mobile Number Portability (MNP), a prefix no longer guarantees the current network. The person may have switched carriers and kept the same number.

You’re looking at a Philippine mobile number and need to know what network it belongs to. The first four digits (the mobile prefix) point to the original assigned carrier. This 2026 updated list covers Smart, TNT, Sun Cellular, Globe, TM, GOMO, and DITO.

Quick note first: Mobile Number Portability means a prefix no longer guarantees the current network. The subscriber may have switched carriers and kept the same number. More on that in the MNP section below.

What is a mobile prefix?

A mobile prefix is the first four digits of an 11-digit Philippine mobile number. Every number in the Philippines follows this format:

0929-123-4567
Prefix = 0929 (originally Smart)

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) assigns number blocks to each carrier, and those blocks determine which prefix belongs to which network. Prefixes were the standard way to identify a carrier for decades. But MNP changed that.

Three network groups cover all Philippine mobile prefixes. Smart/PLDT and Globe dominate; DITO is the third major player.

What is Mobile Number Portability (MNP)?

Mobile Number Portability lets any subscriber switch networks while keeping their existing number. A person with 0929 (originally Smart) can move to Globe or DITO and their number stays the same.

This means:

A number starting with 0929 may no longer be on Smart. The prefix tells you the original network, not the current one.

So checking prefix alone is no longer 100% reliable. Use it as a starting point, but not as a guarantee.

MNP: Before vs After Before MNP 0929-XXX-XXXX Prefix = Smart Network = Smart After MNP 0929-XXX-XXXX Prefix = Smart Network = Globe (ported)
After MNP, the same 0929 number can be on any network. The prefix no longer guarantees the carrier.

How to check the actual mobile network

Three ways to actually confirm which network a number is on:

1. Ask the person directly

Still the most reliable method. Takes two seconds.

2. Use network checker tools

Smart and Globe both have apps and USSD codes that can confirm if a number is currently on their network. Check their official apps for the latest checker feature.

3. Watch for promo alerts

Some prepaid promos notify you when you’re texting a different network. That’s a passive but useful confirmation.

In short, don’t rely on the prefix list alone. Use it as a first guess, then confirm directly.

Why Filipinos search for mobile prefix lists

People check prefix lists for a few specific situations:

  • Avoiding cross-network charges on texts and calls
  • Verifying online sellers before sending payment
  • Same-network promo compatibility (some deals don’t work cross-network)
  • SIM registration
  • Confirming a number before sending money via GCash, since sending to the wrong network can cost extra

Sending money through GCash or digital payment platforms is actually one of the biggest reasons people look up prefix lists. However, with MNP active, the prefix alone won’t confirm the network. Instead, verify directly with the recipient before transferring.
