Why this page starts with a license check
I took two years of chemical engineering before I moved to IT. In all that time, nobody told us that chemists have their own board. “Chemist” was just a word for anyone in a lab. I had never heard of a licensed chemical technician.
Now I plan to sell low-carb products, like coffee, malunggay powder, coconut and almond powder, and coconut oil. If one of them ever needs a lab test, a chemist or a chemical technician will sign that report. That hasn’t happened yet. Still, the first thing I want to know is how to check who signed it. So besides the chemist board exam results for takers and their families, this page shows that check.
Latest results: October 2026 Chemists and Chemical Technicians
On October 19, 2026, three working days after the last exam day, PRC posted the October 2026 Chemists and Chemical Technicians results. That is two days faster than October 2025. Examinees took the test in NCR, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, Zamboanga and Puerto Princesa, Palawan. By level, Chemists: 914 of 1,197 passed (76.36%); Chemical Technicians: 3,250 of 3,742 passed (86.85%). PRC withheld the results of 2 examinees pending review of their cases.
Board of Chemistry members: Hon. Adoracion P. Resurreccion, Chairperson; Hon. Soledad S. Castañeda and Hon. Ma. Theresa C. Cayton, Members. PRC opens online registration for new October 2026 passers on December 14, 2026. The oath-taking date will be announced later.
How the latest results compare
Compared with October 2025, Chemists went up 3.14 points and Chemical Technicians went up 2.98 points. A year earlier, October 2025 posted 73.22% for Chemists and 83.88% for Chemical Technicians. Chemical Technicians passed at a rate 10.49 points higher than Chemists.
How do I check if a chemist or chemical technician is licensed?
Search PRC’s free online license check at verification.prc.gov.ph. Pick the profession, chemist or chemical technician. Then type the first and last name shown on the report. You can also search by license number and birthdate, or scan the barcode on a digital PRC ID.
- Use the name on the report. Copy it exactly, including the middle initial if there is one.
- Match the profession. A chemical technician’s record is not a chemist’s record. They are two different licenses.
- Check the date. The PRC ID is valid for three years at a time (Republic Act No. 10657, Section 27). An expired ID means the license needs renewal.
Our guide on what a PRC license covers explains the license itself.
If the name does not show up
Don’t assume the worst. Some people are listed under a married name, and spellings can differ. PRC also notes that its online records can have delays. So ask the lab for the full name and the license number, then search again. If nothing turns up, you can report it to PRC.
What should a lab report show?
A chemistry report counts as official only when a registered chemist signs it and writes their registration number on it. That rule is in Section 40 of RA 10657, the Chemistry Profession Act. Without that signature and number, the report is not admissible for legal purposes.
The law also lists what else must be there:
- The chemist’s numbers. Every official document from a chemist shows two numbers: the certificate of registration number and the professional tax receipt (PTR) number. It also shows where and when each was issued, and the expiry date (Section 28).
- The seal. A report that needs a chemist’s signature also needs the chemist’s seal. The seal says “Registered Chemist” and shows the name and registration number (Section 33).
- The technician’s signature, too. Did a chemical technician do the test? Then the technician signs as well, with their own registration number (Sections 5 and 40).
My own checklist before I trust a report
This part is my practical advice, not the law. Say I hold a report for something I plan to sell. I will look for four things, in this order:
- The signer’s name, title, and PRC license number.
- Whether that license is active in PRC’s online check.
- The date of the test, because an old sheet may not match a new batch.
- What was tested, because it has to match the product and the claim.
So when would I refuse it? A missing or inactive license number is one reason. A title that isn’t a licensed one is another. So are tests that skip what I need proven, or a date that is too old. The lab matters too. A chemical lab needs a certificate of authority to operate from the Board of Chemistry (Section 35). Still, the signer’s license is my first check.
Chemist, chemical technician, or chemical engineer?
These are three different licenses. Chemists and chemical technicians are both under the Board of Chemistry, and they take two separate exams. Chemical engineers are under a different board, with a different law and their own exam.
- Registered chemist: may do and certify chemical tests, and supervise lab work (Sections 3 and 4). Only a chemist can head a chemical lab.
- Registered chemical technician: does chemical tests, but only while a registered chemist supervises (Section 5).
- Chemical engineer: licensed under a separate law, Republic Act No. 9297. That law has no technician-level license at all.
I didn’t have that split in school. So if you’re choosing a course, start from the job you picture. If it means signed lab results, look at chemistry and its technician option. If it means plants and production lines, look at chemical engineering.
Next chemist board exam schedule
The law requires both exams at least once a year (Section 20). In both 2025 and 2026, PRC held them in October. The Chemical Technicians exam took one day, while the Chemists exam ran two days in the same week. PRC released the October 2025 results five working days after the exams. In 2026, it took three working days.
PRC posts each year’s exam dates in its schedule of examinations. Once the next dates are in it, they show at the top of this section by themselves. They also change when PRC moves a date.
Who can take each exam?
The two exams have different entry requirements:
- Chemists exam (Section 16): a BS Chemistry degree, or a related degree the Board accepts. You need at least 60 units of chemistry, with all the core chemistry courses.
- Chemical Technicians exam (Section 18): at least 30 units of college chemistry. The school must be recognized by CHED or TESDA. The units must include lectures and lab work in general, analytical, and organic chemistry.
Both also need good moral character. Takers must also be Filipino, or from a country that gives Filipinos the same right. Chemists also need a clean record. They can’t have a conviction for moral turpitude, which means a crime that shows dishonesty or bad character.
For parents, the license is permission to do this work, not a promise of a job. It lets a chemist sign reports and run a lab, inside the scope the law sets. PRC sets the exam fee (Section 21), and you pay it when you apply online. School costs vary too much between schools to state here.
What is on the exam, and how is it scored?
The Chemists exam covers five subjects, and the Chemical Technicians exam covers two.
- Chemists (Section 17): analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry. Each subject weighs between 15% and 30% of the total.
- Chemical technicians (Section 19): practical lab work in analytical and organic chemistry, with equal weights.
To pass either exam, you need an average of at least 70%, with no subject below 50% (Section 22). By law, PRC must release the results within ten days of the last exam day.
If your name is not on the list
First, check the next exam date and the filing deadline in the schedule above. In 2026, PRC’s deadline for both exams was September 14, about a month before the exams.
Next, took the Chemists exam? Then check the technician rule, which PRC states in its own release. Say you failed but got at least 70% in any two subjects. You can still register as a chemical technician. Section 22 of RA 10657 sets this rule.
RA 10657 itself sets no limit on retakes and no refresher course rule. The pass rates above show how the latest exams went.
After you pass
PRC opens online registration for new October 2026 passers on December 14, 2026. First you take your oath before the Board. Then you receive your certificate of registration and your PRC ID (Sections 25 to 27). Your ID needs renewal every three years.
The law also asks two more things of new passers. First, join the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines, the accredited professional group. Chemists become regular members and technicians associate members (Section 30). Each new chemist also gets the official “Registered Chemist” seal for their reports (Section 33).
Many passers start in a lab. Going into business on your own instead? Read SSS for the self-employed and our guide to the tax relief for micro taxpayers. For other lab-based boards, see our medical technologist board exam results and pharmacist board exam results.

You can also search by license number and birthdate, or scan the barcode on a digital PRC ID. Then check that the PRC ID is not expired. It is valid for three years at a time.
Is a chemist the same as a chemical engineer?
No. Chemists and chemical technicians are licensed by the Board of Chemistry under RA 10657. Chemical engineers are licensed under a separate law, RA 9297, with a different board and exam. A chemist may certify chemical tests and head a chemical lab. A chemical engineer works on the plant and process side.
Can a chemical technician sign a lab report?
Yes, for the analysis the technician performed, with the technician’s license number. However, a technician works while a registered chemist supervises. Under Section 40 of RA 10657, a chemistry document is official only with a registered chemist’s signature and registration number.
Can I take the technician exam if I fail the chemist exam?
You may not need to. Say you failed the Chemists exam but got at least 70% in any two subjects. PRC then lets you register as a chemical technician (Section 22 of RA 10657). Otherwise, apply for the next exam by PRC’s filing deadline.
When is the next chemist board exam?
PRC held both exams in October in 2025 and 2026. The law requires them at least once a year. The next dates come from PRC’s yearly schedule, which this page shows as soon as PRC posts it.
What has to be on a lab report for it to be usable?
Under RA 10657, it needs a registered chemist’s signature and registration number. It also needs the chemist’s PTR number, the dates of issue, the expiry date, and the Registered Chemist seal. If a technician did the test, add the technician’s signature and license number. Also check the license is active, the test date is recent, and the tests match your product.
The signature, then the license
For takers, these chemist board exam results answer one question: your name is on the list or it is not. Either way, the next step is a date on PRC’s calendar.
For everyone else, the list is where the check on a lab report starts. The signature on the lab report is only as good as the license behind it. I mixed up these titles for two years in school. Before I sell anything that needs a test, I will run that check first.
